If you've read your way through Beverly Lewis, Wanda E. Brunstetter, Amy Clipston and Shelley Shepard Gray, and you're looking for your next Amish series, I'd love for you to try mine. And if you enjoy an Amish mystery from Vannetta Chapman, Amanda Flower or Wanda E. Brunstetter, try my Ettie Smith Amish Mysteries.
I'm Samantha Price, a USA Today bestselling author of clean Amish romance and Amish cozy mysteries. Here's a simple guide to where to begin.
What to Expect from My Books
- Clean reads. No swearing and no explicit content.
- Family at the heart. Big Amish families, close communities, and plenty of matchmaking.
- Gentle humor. Even in the more serious stories, laughter is never far away.
- Long series. If you love getting to know a family over many books, you'll have plenty to read.
- Large print. Most of my paperbacks also come in large print.
If You Love Amish Romance
Start with: Amish Mercy, Book 1 of The Amish Bonnet Sisters.
This is my biggest family saga. It follows the Baker sisters, their mother Wilma, and the family apple orchard through romances, weddings, babies and plenty of family drama. If you enjoy following one family over many books, this is the place to start.
Or try: A Summer of Discovery, Book 1 of Amish Bonnet Sisters: Legacy of Faith.
A six-book series about Iris, who has grown up an Englisher but spends a summer living with her Amish grandmother, Wilma. A great choice if you'd like a shorter, complete series.
Or try: The Amish Woman and Her Last Hope, Book 1 of Amish Women of Pleasant Valley.
Or try: Amish Rose, Book 1 of Amish Love Blooms, about the Yoder sisters and their matchmaking mother.
You'll find more series, including Expectant Amish Widows and Amish Misfits, on my Series Reading Order page.
If You Love Amish Mysteries
Try: the Ettie Smith Amish Mysteries.
Ettie Smith is an elderly Amish widow who, together with her sister Elsa-May, has a knack for solving murders in her community. These are cozy mysteries, so there's no gore, just clever clues, quirky characters and a good dose of humor. Each mystery is complete in itself, so you can read them in any order. Secrets Come Home, Book 1, is a good place to begin.
Or try: The Amish Widow, Book 1 of the Amish Secret Widows' Society, a lighthearted mix of mystery and romance.
